NORTHWEST INSTITUTE FOR ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN STUDIES IN ITALY
Nancy Josephson and Stephen Day are both members of the Board of Directors of the Northwest Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in Italy (NIAUSI), a nonprofit organization formed in 1981 as an affiliate of the University of Washington. Founded on the principles of cultural exchange and grounded in exploration of design, architecture and art, this unique organization now operates The Civita Institute, a facility located in the ancient Italian Hilltown of Civita di Bagnoregio.
Current projects that Nancy and Stephen are working on include an international symposium regarding physical and cultural preservation issues, focusing on geotechnical preservation of hilltowns, to be held in Civita in May 2008, in collaboration with the World Monuments Fund, a prestigious international organization based in New York and dedicated to the preservation of cultural monuments worldwide.
