Construction began in May 2007 on a new 70,000 square foot building for Bainbridge High School. Designed by Mahlum Architects, the building will house high school administration, 20 classrooms, library, and a multi-level Commons serving both cafeteria and performance activities. Special features include daylight harvesting, natural ventilation of classrooms, cooled air for spaces with year-round activities, roof gardens, and a raingarden-stormwater collection system. The project has secured grants from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) for its voluntary compliance with the Washington Sustainable School Protocol (WSSP) (and from the Department of Ecology for its Low Impact Design of Stormwater Collection. Nancy’s participation includes management of the construction process and design and budgetary assistance to the Director of Capital Projects. Construction cost is budgeted at $23.4 million.
